Five students from the Department of Food Science and Technology (ITP) at IPB University have introduced culinary innovation through their brand, Sprunch.co. Their flagship product, Sprunchy, is a modern taco style snack featuring crispy spinach sheets as a substitute for seaweed (nori).
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sprunch.co, Faatiha Adzkia Samil, explained that Sprunchy is designed for students looking for a complete snack option. Each Sprunchy contains rice, chicken or beef, and fresh vegetables such as lettuce, providing carbohydrates, protein, and fiber in one convenient snack.
“This snack uses spinach as its main ingredient and offers a crispy texture on the outer layer. The innovation was created as a solution for students with busy schedules who still want filling and nutritious snacks,” said Faatiha.
Faatiha and her team chose local spinach for the product to help reduce dependence on imported nori, whose demand continues to increase annually. The choice was also based on 2024 data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, which showed that around 97 percent of teenagers consume insufficient daily fruits and vegetables.
“In addition, our internal survey found that 60 percent of respondents frequently skip breakfast due to their busy routines. Sprunchy addresses the need for a quick, filling, and more nutritious snack for students,” she added.
Sprunchy offers three flavor variants at student friendly prices ranging from IDR 15.000 to IDR 17.000. The Sprunchy Signature variant combines grilled chicken with creamy spinach sauce. Sprunchy Terimayo features teriyaki beef with mayonnaise, while Sprunchy Kari combines tender beef with authentic curry seasoning.
Sprunchy is one of the student ventures supported by the Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship, and Alumni Relations (DPKKHA) of IPB University. The business, which participates in the Student Entrepreneurship Program (PMW), is managed by five students with professional role distribution.
The Sprunch.co team consists of Faatiha Adzkia Samil as CEO, Nida Fitriani as Chief Production Officer (CPO), Cinta Deva as Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Skolastika as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), and Bertiani as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
“One of our motivations in developing this culinary innovation through Sprunchy is to create solutions to existing problems. In the future, we hope Sprunch.co can grow professionally,” said Nida Fitriani, CPO of Sprunch.co. (MHT) (IAAS/CAA)
