IPB University shared its experience in managing student dormitories at the 2026 Dormitory Leadership Conference (DLC), held at the University of Indonesia (6/8–9). This forum served as a platform for sharing best practices and strengthening networks and collaboration among dormitory managers from various universities across Indonesia.
The Chairperson of the IPB University Student Dormitory Management Unit, Dr Suratni, attended as a speaker. Through a presentation titled “Building Dormitories as a Learning Ecosystem: The Foundation of Collaborative Leadership and the Nusantara Network,” she emphasized that dormitories serve as learning spaces for students.
“A dormitory is not just a place to live, but a learning space for life. It is a space for growth, a life curriculum, where we learn to live together, grow together, and become better together,” she said.
In addition, Dr Suratni also discussed various dormitory based student welfare programs at IPB University, such as food sharing and food banks through initiatives like Bubur Mamy Gais (BMG), Kolak Mamy Dong (KMD), Free Breakfast (SPG), and Nutritious Lunch (MSG).
On the second day, Dr Suratni led the meeting to establish the Association of Indonesian Higher Education Dormitory Managers (PERPATI) together with Dr Joni Haryanto (Airlangga University) and Wijayanti, MSc (Gadjah Mada University).
PERPATI was established as a platform for communication, collaboration, competency development, and the strengthening of networks among student dormitory managers nationwide.
“Through DLC 2026, IPB University reaffirms the role of dormitories as a learning ecosystem that supports diversity, social responsibility, leadership, and the character development of the nation’s future generation,” said Dr Suratni.
In this forum, IPB University sent a total of 14 delegates, consisting of management staff, the information systems team, senior residents, and senior dormitory leaders. (*/Rz) (IAAS/LAN)
