The surge in demand for sacrificial livestock commodities during Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha requires stronger health supervision and regulatory control. In response to this issue, the IPB University Vocational School, in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Cattle Breeders and Fatteners (APPSI), organized the APPSI National Seminar Season 1.

On this occasion, the Director of Animal Health at the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr drh Hendra Wibawa, emphasized that regulations on the movement of sacrificial livestock are a critical aspect that must be strictly monitored.

“Looking back at 2025, there were 36.381 applications for the movement of ruminant livestock across Indonesia. The highest number of applications indeed occurred ahead of Eid al-Adha, with 5.003 applications recorded in May 2025, as well as prior to Eid al-Fitr in March with 4.109 applications,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the IPB University Vocational School, Dr Aceng Hidayat, stated that this activity is part of the vocational higher education institution’s commitment to supporting the sustainability of the national livestock sector, particularly ahead of Eid al-Adha.

“Alhamdulillah, every year after Eid al-Adha, we ensure that livestock health remains well maintained. We continue to encourage the involvement of lecturers with livestock farmers, especially in aspects of animal health, the development of field human resources, as well as innovation, including improving the quality of local cattle feed through forage management and proper selection of breeding stock,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of sustaining collaboration between vocational higher education institutions, livestock associations, and relevant stakeholders to support improvements in the quality of local cattle farming.

“I hope that these efforts will continue to grow and provide tangible benefits for farmers, especially in West Java, and generate innovations that further strengthen the competitiveness of local cattle farming,” he added.

The Chairman of APPSI West Java Regional Board, Subhan Bila Adam, highlighted the importance of government policy support for ruminant livestock farmers. He assessed that the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) has significantly contributed to the sustainability of livestock businesses.

“At present, the MBG program greatly supports farmers in maintaining the sustainability of their livestock businesses. However, the program still predominantly targets the poultry sector. Therefore, we hope that the West Java Provincial Government can encourage greater inclusion of ruminant livestock needs within the MBG program and provide feed support for ruminant farmers, particularly cattle producers in West Java,” he stated.
