The transformation of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta) into a School of Engineering is a strategic step taken by IPB University to strengthen the field of engineering in response to the challenges of food security, bioenergy, the environment, and the agromaritime industry based on technology.

The Secretary of the Institute at IPB University, Prof Agus Purwito, stated, “For a long time, IPB University has developed an interdisciplinary approach between agricultural science and engineering as one of its core strengths. The Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta) has developed several engineering and technology-based programs, such as Agricultural Mechanization, which later became Agricultural Engineering, and finally Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, Food Technology, Agricultural Industrial Engineering, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. As part of IPB University’s commitment to the development of agricultural technology, the engineering-based academic programs that have been under Fateta will remain in place.”

In line with initiatives and proposals from within Fateta, the change involves its management, which is now under the School of Engineering. This step was taken to accelerate synergy among programs, expand professional networks, and enhance the competitiveness of graduates in the field of agricultural engineering. The scope of engineering science characteristic of the School of Engineering is agromaritime, so education and research will produce graduates and findings in the field of engineering that strengthen innovation, particularly in agricultural technology.

The transformation has been approved by the Academic Senate and established by the Rector, including the establishment of the School of Engineering and the transfer of program management from Fateta to the School of Engineering. The establishment of the School of Engineering also includes new study programs in Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Currently, during the transition period, Fateta continues to perform its academic and non-academic functions as usual. The future institutional structure of Fateta will continue to be comprehensively and inclusively reviewed.

IPB University highly values and welcomes input from alumni and stakeholders to jointly formulate the most appropriate direction for Fateta’s development. To this end, IPB University continues to facilitate broad and constructive dialogue to ensure this transformation proceeds responsibly, sustainably, and in alignment with IPB University’s values.

IPB University expresses its appreciation and gratitude to alumni, faculty members, students, and all stakeholders for their attention, responses, and perspectives regarding the institutional transformation of faculties/schools within IPB University, particularly concerning the establishment of the School of Engineering and the future of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta). IPB University interprets this attention as a manifestation of the extraordinary love and concern of all stakeholders for the advancement of the institution. (IAAS/RMH)
