Cross-border learning has become an integral part of the IPB University student experience. In 2025, a total of 466 IPB University students participated in outbound programs across 29 countries through student exchange, internship, joint research, and other international mobility programs.
IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan stated that increasing outbound mobility is one of the strategic focuses in strengthening the university’s internationalization.
“Moving forward, our focus is on how to continue increasing the number of outbound students. This can be achieved by strengthening the International Thematic Community Service Program (KKNT), student exchange programs, and various other global mobility schemes,” he said.
The destination countries for IPB University students span Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Americas. Some of the destinations with the highest number of students include Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.
“This demonstrates the expanding network of international partnerships that IPB University has built with various universities and global institutions,” he said.
According to Dr Alim, outbound mobility not only enhances students’ academic experiences but also strengthens their global competencies, international networks, and cross-cultural adaptability. These experiences serve as essential preparation for IPB University graduates to compete at the international level.
Meanwhile, the increase in outbound mobility has been accompanied by a rise in the number of inbound international students at IPB University, which now totals 1.526 students from 81 countries, across both degree and non-degree programs. In recognition of these achievements in student mobility, IPB University was named the Golden Winner of the 2025 Diktisaintek Awards in the category for the highest number of nondegree student mobility.
“To support the acceleration of global student mobility, IPB University also offers free passport services through a partnership to open an immigration point on campus. This step is expected to reduce administrative barriers so that students can more easily participate in international programs,” said Dr Alim.
With strengthened policies and integrated system support, IPB University is optimistic that student outbound mobility will continue to increase, while simultaneously solidifying the university’s reputation as a world-class higher education institution. (Lp) (IAAS/LAN)
