The Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), IPB University, continues its series of The 3rd International Seminar on Ocean Science and Sustainability (ISOSS) 2026. Now in its second series, this session focuses on the future of ocean exploration based on robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The seminar features robotics expert Prof Mohd Rizal Arshad, who currently serves as Dean of the School of Robotics at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in Taicang, China.

In his presentation, Prof Mohd Rizal discussed the topic “Intelligent Marine Robotics and Sensor Technology for Ocean Explorations.” He explored how artificial intelligence integrated into underwater robots can optimize data collection in the deep ocean areas that are difficult for humans to reach.

The event was opened by the Chair of the ISOSS 2026 Organizing Committee, Dr Ayi Rahmat. In his remarks, Dr Ayi stated that the holding of this second series is evidence of ISOSS’s ongoing commitment to facilitating global research collaboration in the advancement of marine research.

“When it comes to sustainability, ocean exploration is no longer limited to conventional methods. Through the AI-based sensor and robotics technologies presented today, we are opening up new opportunities to monitor the health of our oceans in real time,” said Dr Ayi.

This academic collaboration was also welcomed by the Chairman of the ITK Department, Dr Syamsul Bahri Agus. He expressed his appreciation for the speakers, who provided firsthand insights to IPB University’s faculty, staff, and students.

“Marine robotics technology is the future of the maritime sector. The warm reception and enthusiasm from all participants demonstrate that our institution is ready to adopt and participate in the development of this cutting-edge sensor technology to support global sustainability programs,” said Dr Syamsul in his opening remarks.
